Nearly half of the energy used to heat and cool American homes is wasted, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. Bayer MaterialScience LLC has joined with the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) to provide homeowners resources for improving home energy usage and lowering utility bills.RESNET is an independent not-for-profit membership group devoted to developing national standards for building energy efficiency rating systems, according to SprayFoam.com.
Bayer will work with RESNET on several initiatives specific to the building envelope and spray polyurethane foam (SPF) insulation, for both new home construction and renovations:
- RESNET will provide unbiased third party energy performance rating for homes designed and built using the Bayer High Performance Residential Program guidelines.
- RESNET and Bayer will reciprocally recognize their respective spray foam contractor certification programs, to ensure the safety and quality of SPF installation.
- Bayer and RESNET will assist the Spray Polyurethane Foam Alliance (SPFA) with implementation of an SPF inspection checklist for home energy auditors.
- Bayer's Michael Strohecker will serve on the insulation advisory council of the RESNET technical committee.
Through the new alignment, Bayer will work jointly with RESNET to promote whole building science principles as an effective way to achieve home energy efficiency.
