Elemental LED hosting open house for On the Green Road Airstream project

Elemental LED will host an open house for On the Green Road in early March in Northern California. Attendees at this public event will have the opportunity to tour a 2003 Airstream recreational vehicle, which has been retrofitted inside and out with sustainable components, fixtures and appliances, as previously written about at ProudGreenHome.

The event is outside of the Elemental LED headquarters at 1195 Park Ave in Emeryville, Calif. from 6-8 p.m. on March 3.

Some of the retrofitted items inside the RV include earth plaster walls and ceiling, a compostable toilet, cork floors and LED lighting. The LED lights were donated by Elemental LED and include dimmable LED strip lights, puck lights, color-changing RGB strip lights and light bars.

The LED lights on the green RV are powered by two solar panels installed on the roof, and the panels' battery can be monitored to track the Airstream's energy use. In addition, the RV is hauled by a 2006 Dodge Ram, which is fueled with waste vegetable oil.

Cece Reinhardt and Brenda Daugherty, owners of On the Green Road, will be offering tours of the Airstream to the public at the open house. In addition, Elemental LED will be offering snacks, Elemental LED swag, information about the LED lighting products featured in the RV and a photo booth.

"Anyone interested in sustainability and simple living in the San Francisco Bay Area will want to check out On the Green Road on March 3rd," said Elemental LED Marketing Manager Charlotte Dick. "Cece and Brenda have accomplished something really remarkable, and the RV will most definitely inspire you."

Elemental LED teamed up with On the Green Road in 2010 when Reinhardt and Daugherty were beginning the Airstream retrofit. The pair have been living in the Airstream full-time and touring it around the U.S. since August.

"This is our first open house near our home town of Alameda, Calif. We're excited to show off our sustainable mobile home to our community in the San Francisco Bay Area," Reinhardt said.
