When buying light bulbs, compare lumens to get the right amount light for each use.
In the past, people purchased light bulbs based on how many watts they used. But the energy saving light bulbs now available use up to 80 percent less power yet provide the same amount of light. So it makes more sense to buy bulbs based on how much light they provide.
So use lumens as the measure of brightness. By knowing how many lumens are needed it's possible to buy just the right bulb for any spot in your home.
