Brad Pitt's foundation builds green Frank Gehry home for NOLA

Mix together Brad Pitt, Frank Gehry and green certified homes and you end up with a simple and appealing design. The actor's Make It Right Foundation completed construction this week on a LEED Platinum home designed by world-famous architect Frank Gehry.

The home is located in New Orleans' Lower 9th Ward, the neighborhood most devastated by Hurricane Katrina in August 2005. This is the only Gehry-designed home in Louisiana, and it was built to LEED Platinum certification standards.

The four-bedroom, three-bath duplex features a rooftop terrace and a covered porch and stands out with a pink and lavender exterior color palette that was chosen by the homeowners, not the architect.

It embraces several sustainable practices, such as a waterproof solar panel porch roof, and exterior cladding out of fiber cement boards. Low-VOC paint and sustainable woods are found throughout the home.

The home is part of a community of 150 houses that the foundation is building for people affected by the hurricane. There are a total of 21 architectural firms across the globe involved with Make It Right, with Gehry one of the many firms participating.

Buyers play as much as they can afford for each home. The average price for a single-family house is $150,000 and a duplex is $200,000.
