If you've ever dreamed of riding on an oversized three-wheeled toilet seat powered by poo, now you'll get your chance. This week, Toto debuted its Toilet Bike Neo in Tokyo.
Yes, it's true. The bike runs on animal waste and sewage and can travel up to 186 miles on a single tank of bio-fuel. And for a bit of fun, the fuel tank is shaped like a toilet and also serves as the rider's seat. There's even a handy-dandy giant toilet paper roll on the rear. But the rider doesn't supply the fuel. The seat is just for laughs.
Sadly, the bike will not be commercially produced. It's just an entertaining way for the company to garner attention
and showcase the company's green campaign through its eco-friendly products such as water-saving toilets and showerheads and faucets.
(Toto already produces the lowest-flush toilet on the market, with its new 1G toilet that it showcased at KBIS in Chicago earlier this year, as previously reported on ProudGreenHome.)
Biofuels are a popular topic these days, with the U.S. Department of Energy's Biofuels Initiative working to make biomass fuels competitive in cost with gasoline. There's a goal of using biofuels to replace 30 percent of the current amount of gasoline consumption in the U.S. by 2030. This ties into the government's announcement earlier this week that automakers must achieve a fleetwide 54.5 mpg for new cars and trucks by the model year 2025.
