Homeowners can reduce their air conditioning costs by about 13 percent with an upgraded control system.
The QwikSEER+WattSaver is an electronic control that reduces energy consumption of existing air conditioners and heat pumps. It uses up to 13 percent fewer watts, which increases the efficiency of most central heating and cooling systems.
Manufactured by Mainstream Engineering, QwikSEER+ is a simple retrofit of existing air conditioning and heat pump systems with Permanent Split Capacitor (PSC) motors.
PSC air conditioning systems are installed with the blower fan set to run at a single speed, even though the motor is capable of running multiple speeds.
The easily installed QwikSEER+WattSaver control board monitors evaporator coil temperature and humidity levels and automatically selects the optimal fan speed based on real time environmental conditions.
The result is saving of up to 13 percent in energy usage and lower humidity levels – in other words, increased comfort at lower cost.
“As spring tune-up time is upon us, HVAC contractors are looking for low cost options to help their customers save money on their electricity bills,” said Robert Scaringe, president of Mainstream Engineering. “Previously, the only option for homeowners who wanted more energy-efficient HVAC in their homes was to upgrade the system using far more expensive X13 or Electronically Commutated Motors (ECM). QwikSEER+ provides a simple upgrade to an existing PSC motor at a cost that pays for itself in less than two years.”
With the QwikSEER+'s "plug & play" design, the control board can be quickly installed, and no changes of the system controls or thermostats are necessary; QwikSEER+ handles everything automatically. Since humidity levels are reduced, homeowners often can increase their thermostat setting by one to two degrees, resulting in even greater energy savings.
