Then a peat fiber biofilter system is the green-friendly, low energy, natural solution where simple, reliable operation and maintenance are required.

How the peat fiber biofilter works:

  • Wastewater flows from the home or development into a wastewater septic tank. The solids settle and the liquid effluent flows by gravity to a pump basin/tank.
  • The liquid effluent is pumped by timed-dosing at specific intervals into the peat fiber biofilter modules where it is distributed evenly onto the biofibrous peat media. A combination of biological, chemical and physical processes treat the wastewater as it filters through the biofibrous peat media.
  • Treated effluent emerges from the peat fiber biofilter modules and disperses either into a gravel pad directly below the modules or is collected for dispersal by other methods, including gravel trenches, low-pressure pumping, drip irrigation and other conventional disposal methods.

Peat fiber biofilers with the biofibrous media yields a significantly higher-quality effluent than septic tanks with the following qualities:

  • B.O.D. is reduced 96+%
  • T.S.S. is reduced 95+%
  • Ammonia is reduced 90+%
  • Fecal coliforms are reduced 99.9%

Effluent is certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 40. The quality of the effluent is greater due to the biofibrous nature of the peat fiber used.

The modular design of the system ensures flexible phasing options for homes communities and commercial developments

Systems are completely odor free and have low to no power requirements.
