A well-insulated building minimizes heat transfer through the envelope so that energy used to maintain the interior climate is similarly minimized, reducing both utility bills and fossil fuel use.

While fiberglass is the most common material used for wall and ceiling insulation, cotton insulation comes in batts that are comparable to fiberglass in ease of installation, fire resistance, and energy efficiency. In many categories, however, the benefits of insulating with cotton exceed those of fiberglass.
