Ducted mini split heating and cooling from LG for the Proud Green Home at Serenbe
The ducted mini split system from LG Electronics provides an unobtrusive solution that will provide a high level of comfort for the Proud Green Home at Serenbe.
Here, architect Chris Laumer-Giddens describes the heating and cooling design in his blog:
Home: 2,700 Square Feet, 4 Bedrooms, 3.5 Baths
Design Temperatures: Heating – 26°F, Cooling – 91.5°F
Heating Load (99%): 22,700 Btuh
Cooling Load (1%): 18,960 Btuh (Sensible), 2,400 Btuh (Latent)
Heating and Cooling Equipment Summary:
Manufacturer: LG Electronics, HVAC Division
Indoor Fan Coil: Ceiling Concealed Ducted, High Static
The home will use three concealed ducted fan coils to serve three separate zones in the home. One is a 9,000 Btuh capacity unit that will serve the entire second floor where there are three 3 bedrooms, two bathrooms and a flex space.
A 12,000 Btuh fan coil will serve the main living area, kitchen, dining and foyer. It was installed in a dropped ceiling area in a small alcove just outside the Laundry Room. Vertical clearance for these units is 12 inches. Transitions allow the plenums to deliver or return adequate air flow to and from the unit.
The Proud Green Home is being built southwest of Atlanta in the sustainable community of Serenbe. It will be certified EarthCraft House Platinum, ENERGY STAR Version 3.0, EPA Water Sense, and EPA Indoor Air Plus. The home will also produce on-site electricity (photovoltaics), and will be a net-zero home, in other words it will produce as much energy as it uses.
