Eco-friendly apartment complex wins Green Globes certification (photos)

Luxury downtown apartment living just got greener with the opening of the Joseph Arnold Lofts in downtown Seattle.

The apartment complex fills a niche for people who want to live downtown and use public transportation as well as walking and cycling.

The complex is the first high-rise project in the state to receive the Green Globes environmental certification.

The kitchens features energy-efficient appliances,  low-VOC finishes and water-saving fixtures.

The 131-unit, 13-story new residential building offers a wide range of green living features the appeal to the Seattle market, including a return to urban living.

"Seattle is experiencing an increasing number of people who want the option to live downtown in a high-end residential building – but don't necessarily want to own a condo. This evolution is a natural part of the downtown fabric in larger cities like New York, Chicago or San Francisco," Schuster said.

Some apartments feature spectacular views of Elliott Bay, as well as easy access to public transportaiton and bike paths.

A New Standard of Green for Seattle 
Demonstrating a deep commitment to environmental stewardship, the complex known as The Joe has been certified Three Globes, which is the equivalent of LEED Gold.

The building Green Globes is an international green building certification system developed by the Green Building Initiative. It has been used throughout Europe and Canada for a number of years and is the first green building certification system to be certified by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

Residents have private access to bike parking racks and a workroom to keep their bikes in tip-top running condiiton. 

With luxurious finishes, modern amenities and uninhibited design, The Joe offers studio, one and two-bedroom homes conveniently located just steps from the Olympic Sculpture Park and Elliott Bay.
