Low-VOC paints ready for LEED v4 buildings (video)
With the launch of LEED v4, specifiers and applicators are looking for coatings that meet the new requirements while delivering optimal performance.
Sherwin-Williams manufactures coatings that meet the most stringent volatile organic compound (VOC) regulations while offering benefits such as excellent washability, maximum hide in fewer coats and even improved indoor air quality.
To satisfy LEED requirements, Sherwin-Williams offers dozens of products that have achieved GREENGUARD Gold certification while meeting performance, aesthetic and budget requirements.
Sherwin-Williams products that have achieved GREENGUARD Gold certification include Emerald, Harmony, ProMar 200 Zero VOC and ProMar 400 Zero VOC interior paints; specialty coatings such as Loxon Acrylic Conditioner, Dry Erase Coating and Tuff Wall Texture Finish; primers including PrepRite; ProBlock and Multi-Purpose Latex Primer; several high performance coatings in the Pro Industrial line and value products, like Solo Paint, for interiors and exteriors.
Professionals can find resources for sustainable building projects at swspecs.com, including coating specifications, updated VOC regulations and certification guidelines, and a complete and continuously updated Green Programs and VOC Regulated Areas Reference Guide for Coatings.

Sherwin-Williams has enhanced its Harmony interior latex to help eliminate common odors and promote better indoor air quality by reducing airborne concentrations of formaldehyde and other aldehydes.
Once the paint has dried, Harmony's Formaldehyde Reducing Technology helps reduce the levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from potential sources like insulation, carpet, furniture, fabrics and other building materials.
In addition to its Odor Eliminating and Formaldehyde Reducing Technologies, Harmony Paint contains anti-microbial agents to inhibit the growth of mold and mildew on the paint film and related bacterial odors – helping to extend the life of the paint. Harmony Paint also delivers great hide and a durable finish that can withstand frequent washings.
Sherwin-Williams ColorCast Ecotoner colorants, which are used to tint all Sherwin-Williams latex and water based paints, are GREENGUARD Gold certified and will not add to the VOC content of the paint when tinted. The colorants are packaged in PET plastic bottles made entirely of recycled plastic.
