Mini split HVAC delivers high efficiency whole-house option (video)

To bring mini-split HVAC solution to whole-house installation, Panasonic has launched the Total Home Comfort Solution.

The system blends a mini-split unit, that's usually designed for a zone or two, with vent fans and an energy recovery ventilator to deliver sufficient airflow to cool and heat a two-story house.

The ERV also delivers fresh air and while managing moisture and heat in the airflow. The system also uses fans for spot ventilation in bathrooms for additional moisture control.

Here's a Panasonic video explaining the system.

The system packages Panasonic's WhisperGreen vent fan with WhisperComfort Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) and the Exterios ductless split AC unit, featuring a SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating) rating of 28.5.

Panasonic says the system will:

  • Maintain a comfortable temperature all year long
  • Improve IAQ by reducing moisture and airborne pollutants
  • Provide balanced airflow for fresh air throughout the entire house
  • Help assure compliance with ASHRAE 62.2, LEED and ENERGY STAR

Panasonic mini splitThe Exterios mini-split uses Panasonic’s Inverter Technology to enable the change of power supply frequency, providing each model with flexible operation while using less electricity. The inverter constantly adjusts the compressor rotation speed to provide optimum performance at all times.

Once the set temperature is reached, the inverter continues to operate with minimum power to avoid unnecessary electricity consumption. This extremely precise operation enables quick cooling or heating while also reducing power consumption.

The Whisper Green Select fan offer a flexible solution for managing indoor air quality. The WhisperGreen Select features “Pick-A-Flow” and“Plug and Play” technologies that allow builders and contractors to customize the vent fan for a variety of applications. The Pick-A-Flow speed selector is available via two base models – 50-80-110 CFM or 110-130-150 CFM, and the required air flow can be achieved with just the flip of a switch. Four unique Plug ‘N Play modules allow for further customization, providing the ability to choose from multiple features such as types of sensors and lighting options.
