Ply Gem adds sustainable roofing to exterior building products

With products in more than 20 exterior home product categories already, Ply Gem has launched a new line of sustainable, engineered slate shingles.

With the addition of roofing, Ply Gem now offers everything for the home exterior from a single manufacturer, including windows, siding, stone veneer, trim and mouldings, fence, railing, accents and accessories – The Designed Exterior by Ply Gem.

Molded from nearly 100 percent recycled materials, using natural slate, Ply Gem’s new engineered slate shingles feature deep shadow lines and chiseled edges. The shingles offer the beauty and durability of quarried slate in a lighter weight, easier to install, more affordable product.

John Stephenson, senior vice president of marketing, talks about Ply Gem’s new slate tile line and the company’s commitment to sustainability.

Builders can choose from four color schemes – Sagebrush, Brownstone, Pewter and Charcoal, all blended with natural slate to produce the most authentic coloring:

  • Sagebrush features shades of gray mixed with deep green hues.
  • Brownstone is made from a subtle mixture of earth tone colors.
  • Pewter blends light and dark slate to create a rich gray tone.
  • Charcoal pairs dark gray slate with silver and charcoal shades.

To ease installation, Ply Gem's engineered slate shinglesare lighter weight and manufactured with indented nail flanges, eliminating the need for additional framing support or any special tools. Additionally, the shingles are designed to resist impact and damage.

Tested to withstand windloads of up to 110 mph, as well as golf ball-sized hail stones, professionals and homeowners can expect Ply Gem's engineered slate shingles to last a lifetime. Earning one of the industry's highest fire ratings, the shingles are virtually indestructible.
