Reusing Water

  • Plant water for cooling is recirculated in a closed loop system to filter and recycle.

Efficient Transportation

  • We utilize route optimization software to ensure routes are the most efficient. In the east coast windows operations, total miles driven has been reduced by 4.5 percent, helping to reduce emissions and fuel consumption.
  • New technologies have minimized transfer freight between other facilities. For example, the Jasper, TN siding manufacturing facility reduced truck freight by 15,000 miles in 2013 by incorporating additional tooling.
  • The West Sacramento, CA windows manufacturing facility has reduced their routes by 1,000 miles per week by shipping to isolated areas through a common carrier.
  • We utilize route optimization software to ensure routes are the most efficient. In the east coast windows operations, total miles driven has been reduced by 4.5 percent, helping to reduce emissions and fuel consumption.
  • We incorporate back hauls whenever possible for delivery of raw materials.

Reducing Energy Use and Waste

  • Three out of every four plants have converted to high efficient lighting.
  • In various plants, scrap glass is ground up and used in reflector paint for highway signs and stripes, and the powder form is used in sandpaper.
  • We recycle a variety of materials from pallets, batteries and light bulbs to scrap wood, metal and vinyl.
