Advanced framing for the building envelope

Advanced framing for the building envelope

It’s amazing how we’ve gone from simple insulated stud walls to advanced framing in just a few years. I’ve found these techniques coupled with interesting materials are key to balancing eco-friendly practices and the comfort my wife and I want in our home. For instance, a true passive approach would use smaller windows to reduce our energy consumption. Part of “comfort” is enjoyment, and restricting our view of the beautiful area around us wouldn’t work.

Fortunately, there are many approaches to creating an airtight building envelope that increase thermal efficiency, control moisture, AND give us the views we look forward to. Rick and Greg at Point One Architects recently went over several with me, and viewers of the video that accompanied this post on our blog provided great comments as well.  We talked about the pros and cons of different framing methods, moisture barriers, and insulation.

Please feel free to join the conversation on our blog!
