ODL Makes Patterns Come to Life with New Dialogue™ Layered Glass

Feb. 6, 2018

ODL, Inc., a leading building products supplier of decorative and clear door glass and entry treatments, aims to shake up the industry with its new line of layered glass. To make their vision a reality, ODL collaborated with Rhode Island-based design studio, Observatory.

The firm’s principal designers, Cutter Hutton and Ayako Takase, took on the challenge of creating six unique, multi-layered patterns. The goal was for the layers in each pattern to aesthetically interact with one another while providing an element of privacy. Their endeavor was a success, and thus, Dialogue™ was born.

Dialogue™ takes on a personality of its own as layers of glass interact with one another, through light, and with movement. Each of the lines’ six ceramic frit patterns change form and move as light or a person’s vantage point changes. Patterns come to life, shapes are revealed, and shadows dance as light and movement engage in a dialogue with the doorglass.

Additionally, the six patterns offer varying levels of privacy along with compelling design elements that are appropriate for a variety of applications.

See the story of the design process and collaboration behind Dialogue™ below.
