The value of water
Most community water systems in the United States rely on groundwater aquifers for public water supplies. One of the exceptions is Kentucky, with almost 80 percent of community water systems using surface sources of water. Surface water comes from creeks, streams, lakes and rivers, while groundwater is found below the earth’s surface and below the water table in natural sources known as aquifers. Water is pumped out of aquifers by way of wells for consumption.
Several areas of the country routinely experience droughts, while others deal with contaminated water supplies from burst pipes. “We’re getting extremely more familiar with the issue of water,” said Larry Acker, owner of California-based Advanced Conservation Technology Distribution. “With major water shortages on the west coast in the aquifers and rivers, it is becoming a major issue.”
Conserving water is no longer a “cause” for passionate environmentalists. It is a practical necessity for everyone. Homeowners, business owners and residents alike can do a little bit or a lot, because saving even small amounts of water has a cumulative effect.
The environmentally friendly ACT D’MAND Kontrols pumping system saves the average household 7,000 to 10,000 gallons of water a year. Easily installed with any existing plumbing, the ACT D’MAND pump provides hot water on demand. Through proprietary technology, hot water is accessible within a second or two, instead of within a minute or two, which prevents thousands of gallons of water from being wasted each year. The ACT D’MAND pump saves water, saves energy, saves on sewage processing, saves the life of the water heater, and saves time.
