WaterSmart Innovations Conference
Water was the word in Las Vegas in October 2013, when more than 900 water-efficient professionals from around the globe gathered for the 6th annual WaterSmart Innovations Conference and Exposition, the world’s largest urban water-efficiency conference. Presented by the Southern Nevada Water Authority, the first such conference started off with about 80 people. Interest in sustainable water practices has grown exponentially over the years.
Over the last five or six years, people have started to calculate the water/energy relationship. Saving water saves energy. Saving energy saves water. In most municipalities, the water agency’s biggest customer is the utility company; the utility company’s biggest customer is the water agency. “It’s a huge amount of interplay,” said Larry Acker, a conference speaker and the owner of California-based Advanced Conservation Technology Distribution. Acker invented the ACT D’MAND Kontrols system, a proprietary pump that provides hot water on demand. Acker and his ACT D’MAND products have been at every WaterSmart Innovations Conference; the pumping system is recognized and accepted by WaterSmart as one of the top water-saving products around—especially because it saves both water and energy.
New water conservation technologies were introduced at the 2013 WaterSmart Innovations conference, so consumers should soon see new low-flow toilets, shower heads, pedal-operated faucets and exterior sprinkler systems.
One sustainable product already in use, and in demand, is the ACT D’MAND Kontrol system. This proprietary pump provides hot water to the user on demand. Hot water is available within a second or two, instead of within minutes, which saves more than 7,000 gallons of water per year per home. The system is also a pleasure to use, because homeowners have instant hot water at the touch of the faucet.
