Win the war against water in your walls

Win the war against water in your walls

Experienced builders will remember the days when we didn't worry so much about mold and rot caused by water. That's because the homes had so much air leakage that the water could dry up before it caused damage.

With today's homes built to higher standards of air tightness, even a little bit of water can cause a big problem. With wall assemblies of plywood or OSB sheathing, insulation, caulking, drywall and other airtightness measures, enough air simply doesn't flow through the wall to dry any moisture that gets into the system.

Wind-driven rain and moisture can create a breeding ground for mold, mildew and wood rot if they penetrate behind siding and saturate walls.

The DuPont Building Envelope system consists of products specifically designed for proper moisture and air management within wall systems. DuPont™ Tyvek® weather barriers protect wall systems from water damage and air intrusion.

The unique nonwoven structure of Tyvek® HomeWrap® blocks air and water infiltration, yet makes it breathable which allows moisture vapor to pass through. This helps promote drying in wall systems, to help prevent mold and water damage.

In addition, Tyvek® HomeWrap® stops air movement through the walls, helping insulation perform closer to its full R-value, to provide a more energy-efficient home.

DuPont™ Tyvek® weather barriers help builders control air flow to help achieve both energy efficiency and comfort while meeting modern energy codes.
