Windows always cost

Windows always cost

Windows will always add to the expense of operating a home. This is something to be aware of when trying to be as Swamp Yankee Green as possible.

Even the most energy efficient windows made are a total heat sieve. The cheapest windows made cost more per square foot than any wood frame wall. Windows will always leak, rot and cease to function over enough time, so use them judiciously.

Admittedly, when well located they can get you a wee bit of heat from a cooperative winter sun, provide cross ventilation that limits the desire for air conditioning, and allow you to keep the light bulbs off in your house till the sun goes down.

So windows are necessary. But costly.
