Engineered cedar shakes shake up roofing market

What looks like cedar, installs like asphalt, and is made primarily from recycled materials?

It’s Ply Gem Roofing Engineered Cedar, new for 2016. The new roofing option is designed from hand-selected, milled cedar shingles, which are laser-engraved into molds.

Made using the same proprietary polymer formulation as Ply Gem Roofing Engineered Slate – with nearly 100 percent recycled resins – Engineered Cedar replicates the beauty of natural cedar roofing and yet outperforms it with a solid-core composition.

Low heat and high pressure create a material that is exceptionally durable, moisture-resistant, impact-resistant, insect-resistant and fire-resistant.

Ply Gem Roofing Engineered Cedar not only looks beautiful, but eases the job of the installer. Engineered Cedar can be cut and scored with a utility knife, attached with a nail gun or nail by hand, and requires no additional framing support or special skills for installation. Though lightweight, Ply Gem Roofing Engineered Cedar is still strong enough to stand up to roofers walking on the tiles while installing.

Ply Gem Roofing Engineered Cedar is available in Weathered Gray and Warm Brown color families, and can be applied to residential and commercial projects.
