Tips to save energy and resources as the seasons change
Whether it's the air conditioning, heat, hot water or lighting, there are always ways to save money on utility bills, such as:
- Move lamps and TVs away from the thermostat. Heat from these appliances can confuse the AC and cause it to run longer.
- Properly insulate the attic. Attic doors can be responsible for up to 15 percent of a home¹s heat loss.
- Lower the thermostat in the fall and winter. Turning the thermostat back 10-15 degrees for eight hours (while sleeping or out of the house) can save around 10 percent a year on energy bills.
- Use cold water. Hot water can account for up to 25 percent of the energy consumed in your home.
