EEBA proves high-performance building learning experience

Nov. 20, 2017 | by Steve Arel

When Scott Sanders started BrightLeaf Homes in Brookfield, Ill., he did so to help people.

Co-workers. Clients. Customers. Trade partners.

“We just happen to be building homes and doing that along the way,” Sanders said. “It’s just in our DNA.”

Part of what has fueled BrightLeaf’s success is the focus it puts into building for its customers what the company calls a “forever home.” That means a structure that promotes good health, provides comfort, fosters sustainability and, of course, creates happiness.

Sanders continued to pick up new ideas and strategies for building high-performance single- and multifamily homes during the recent Energy & Environmental Building Alliance (EEBA) High Performance Home Summit in Atlanta. As a winner of a 2017 Department of Energy Innovation Award for custom homes, it also was an opportunity for him to share some of what he’s already learned.

In the video below, Sanders discusses the impact of EEBA, BrightLeaf’s success and how he could use what he learned at the summit to help improve the high-performance building industry.
