Expert: Selling high-performance homes not impossible
For builders choosing to focus on constructing high-performance single- and multifamily homes, Gord Cooke has little doubt about the outcome of their investment: They will sell it.
“Whatever you build, they will buy,” said Cooke, of Black River Design in Canada. “Generally speaking, build what you like to build and convince homeowners that what you should build as well. There’s nothing wrong with that.”
Cooke took part in the recent Energy & Environmental Building Alliance (EEBA) High Performance Home Summit in Atlanta, speaking with attendees and hosting sessions on how builders can more effectively sell their projects.
The keys: Get prospective buyers excited about the home in general. Once they’re excited, follow up with the efficiencies that have been built in and done at no additional cost.
