Insulated house wrap tackles continuous insulation requirements
Continuous insulation and tougher wall insulation requirements are part of the new building codes, and building professionals are looking for ways to meet the challenge without disrupting traditional building practices.
The2012 International Energy Conservation Code, the basis for many local building codes across the country, requires more insulation and a tighter building envelope, among other enhancements, than previous codes.
Under the code, continuous insulation (ci) is an uninterrupted blanket of insulation that spans over structural members without thermal bridges other than from fasteners and service openings.
Depending on the climate zone, the requirements call for insulation in wall cavities as well as continuous insulation or insulated siding.
Fetterman said that Tyvek ThermaWrap R5.0 offers the air and water management benefits of DuPont Tyvek HomeWrap with an R-value of 5.0. The unique structure of Tyvek ThermaWrap R5.0 allows any moisture that may reach the wall sheathing or cavity to escape, helping to prevent the accumulation of water in the wall, which can lead to water damage and mold.
