Smart thermostat controls energy efficient boilers
A smart thermostat coupled to a high-efficiency boiler delivers a one-two punch.
Bosch Thermotechnology’s popular wall-mounted Greenstar gas condensing boiler for residential applications is available in a floor standing version in addition to the wall-mounted unit that can be controlled with the new Bosch Remote Room Controller Smart Thermostat
At the 2015 AHR Expo, Tom Kelly, Manager Applications, Training and Technical Services for Bosch Thermotechnology, reviewed the new boiler model and thermostat.
Kelly said the Greenstar gas condensing boiler for residential applications is available in a floor standing version for all eight regular (heat) and combi (heat+hot water) models: regular heat only models and combi heat and hot water units. With its sleek appliance-like design and small footprint, Greenstar FS models are ideal for use in applications where wall-mounting options are not available or a floor standing unit is preferred.
The new Bosch Remote Room Controller (RRC) Smart Thermostat from Bosch Thermotechnology uses a home wifi connection to allow heating and domestic hot water to be monitored and adjusted from any compatible smartphone or tablet.
Unlike other smart room temperature controllers on the market, the RRC Smart Thermostat is the only thermostat of its type that can adjust the flow temperature of the boiler to the minimum level required to enhance condensing operation, yet still maintain the required room comfort level. It can do this in two ways - utilizing room feedback or outdoor reset (weather compensation).
The weather compensation feature boosts efficiency even further by using local online weather data or an outdoor sensor connected to the heat source to
automatically adjust the home’s heating to the most economical level, increasing the temperature of the boiler output when the weather gets cold, and decreasing it when it warms up again. All this is accomplished with or without a hard-wired sensor on the outside wall of the home.
