Variable speed heat pumps make utility bills cool
Most heat pumps have only one speed, which can waste a lot of energy.
It's like driving your car only at full throttle or no throttle. Think of how bad the gas mileage would be. Now, variable speed technology is giving heat pumps and furnaces greater efficiency and durability.
At the 2016 International Builders' Show, Shawn Whiteley, regional manager for American Standard, reviewed the company's new AccuComfort variable speed heat pump and air conditioning systems that deliver precise and efficient comfort by running heat pumps and air conditioners at the exact speed needed to maintain a home’s ideal temperature, within 1⁄2 degree of the selected comfort setting — similar to cruise control in a car.
Whiteley said the American Standard Platinum 18 Heat Pump comes with technology that allows the variable speed system to consistently adjust to run at a more efficient speed to maintain a homeowner’s preferred level of comfort all year round. It communicates with an indoor unit through AccuLink communicating technology.
The technology allows the variable speed system to consistently adjust to run at a more efficient speed to maintain a homeowner’s preferred level of comfort all year round. Also using variable speed technology, the Forefront Platinum TAM8 Air Handler provides reliable and efficient comfort, with even cooling and heating from room to room. Paired with AccuLink communicating technology, the air handler helps deliver cleaner air and less moisture.
