There are several ways you can reduce operating and maintenance costs, lower water consumption and conserve heat with your swimming pool. Solar pool heaters warm your pool with “clean” energy from the sun, and can therefore reduce heating costs. The U.S. Department of Energy offers more tips for being more green and reducing operating and heating costs associated with your pool, including:

  • Optimize water filtration and circulation pumping
  • Install the right sized pump
  • Reduce the pump's operating time by circulating water
  • Decrease the hydraulic resistance of the pool's circulation system when possible
  • Install a timer

Outdoor pools can absorb 75 to 85 percent of the solar energy hitting its surface. Know how to optimize this free source of energy.
