Differentiating between energy-efficient and inefficient single-family homes on a community scale helps identify and prioritize candidates for energy-efficiency upgrades. A prescreening diagnostic was conducted in a simulated community of homes in Boulder, Colo. to analyze energy consumption data. For each archetype, certain conditions were considered, including:

  • Construction conditions per code
  • Occupant behavior schedules

The U.S. residential sector consumes more than 11 percent of the annual energy consumption. Identify proper energy-efficient upgrade needs to help reduce this carbon footprint.
