A knee wall is any wall that is adjacent to the attic. Without a proper seal in addition to insulation, the extreme heat and cold of your attic can seep through the knee wall and into your living space. A very effective step homeowners can take is to nail rigid foam board, drywall or foil-faced hardboard to the studs. Nail this material directly on top of the insulation inside the attic space and cover the insulation completely. This barrier will help keep extreme hot and cold out of the living space.
