Trying to be as green as possible? Make sure you know what to look for when purchasing low standby power products such as computers and televisions. The U.S. Department of Energy has released specifications to keep in mind, such as:

  • TVs - 1 watt or less standby levels
  • DVD players - 1 watt or less standby levels
  • Cordless phones - 2 watts or less standby levels
  • Laptop computers - 1 watt or less standby levels
  • Microwave ovens - 2 watts or less standby levels

To be an environmentally-responsible consumer, make sure you're seeking out products with the lowest-available standby power levels.
