Weather-resistive barriers are a part of the exterior wall system that protects building materials form water penetration. These barriers allow water vapor to escape, but do not allow liquid water to penetrate into the wall system. Depending on the wall system, building paper, housewrap, or rigid foam board can be used as a weather-resistive barrier.
